Robert Leonard BLOWERS, son of Robert James BLOWERS (c. 1861-c. 1944) and Matilda ROUSE (c. 1857-c. 1930), was born on 20 December 1896 in Colchester, Essex and was baptised there on 14 February 1897. Very little has been found about Leonard’s military service. From a North Lopham 1918 absent voters list he is shown as “71263 Gnr., 153rd Hvy. Batty. R.G.A.” He caught malaria and was hospitalised from 20 October 1918 to 14 November 1918 in No. 84 Stationary Hospital, No. 3 Convalescent Depot, situated at Le Tréport, in France, noted with 2 years service. Presumably, then, Leonard started his service around 1916. He died circa 1939 in North Lopham - aged 41 years. He was buried on 6 December1939 in North Lopham.
